When Dominique Amerosa, president of Rags to Riches Animal Rescue, got wind of a stray Persian cat in Tampa, Florida, she was eager to lend a helping hand.
Initially, the cat, believed to be a neutered male, seemed like any other stray, confirmed by a vet visit. But just three weeks later, the same cat, now named Gertrude, surprised Dominique by adding a new member to her family: a tiny, energetic kitten called Wisp.
Wisp, a Persian cat with a unique appearance and an endearing chattiness, quickly became an internet sensation. In no time, she gathered 860,000 followers and an astounding 57 million likes on TikTok!
Fans describe her as “scrungly,” with a look that’s been compared to a used napkin. Dominique playfully notes, “It’s as if she’s just risen from bed or maybe she’s plotting a mad scientist’s experiment!”
Wisp’s quirky appearance and dietary charm, complete with a cute orange stain around her mouth from a watered-down slurry, have endeared her to many.
Despite dealing with an intestinal condition, Wisp receives love and care from Rags to Riches Animal Rescue, including a special procedure called ballooning. Dominique emphasizes the joy and resilience of animals like Wisp, stating, “With dedication and love, there are endless ways to support them.”
Wisp, now able to handle her bathroom needs independently, is a testament to resilience and determination. Despite occasional negative comments, Dominique stands firm, saying, “Our commitment is unwavering. We stand by our animals through thick and thin.”
